PRE-OP
Preparing for your procedure.
Knowing what to expect before your procedure helps everything go smoothly on the day.

What to wear
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Avoid jewelry on the hand and wrist.
Getting there
Arrange a ride home. You will have local anesthetic in your hand and wrist and should not drive immediately after.
Eating and drinking
No fasting required. Eat and drink normally before your appointment.
What to bring
Your Alberta Health Care card, and any relevant medical records or test results.
POST-OP CARE
Taking care of your hand after surgery.
Following your post-op care instructions closely will help you heal quickly and comfortably.
Keep the surgical site clean and dry for the first 48 hours.
Avoid heavy lifting or gripping with the affected hand for the first week.
Mild soreness and swelling at the incision site is normal and will resolve within days.
Take over-the-counter pain relief as needed. Most patients find they require very little.
EXERCISES AND REHABILITATION
Restoring strength and mobility.
Gentle hand and finger exercises help restore full range of motion and strength after surgery. Dr. Loiselle will provide a specific exercise guide at your follow-up appointment.
Most patients who undergo endoscopic release do not require formal physiotherapy. We can help organize a referral to trusted physiotherapy providers if you need a little extra assistance.

Recovery varies by individual and depends on the type of procedure performed. Dr. Loiselle will discuss your expected timeline at your appointment.

Patients with long-standing 24/7 symptoms prior to surgery may take longer to achieve maximum relief. Dr. Loiselle will discuss individual expectations at your consultation.

Through our partnership with the Alberta Neurologic Centre, patients who do not yet have a confirmed diagnosis or EMG can access fast-track testing and treatment through a single point of contact. Simply reach out to our office and we will coordinate everything on your behalf.

This collaborative model provides greater diagnostic certainty, individualized surgical planning, and an enhanced patient experience while minimizing unnecessary appointments. EMG completed within 1 to 2 weeks. Surgery scheduled within 1 to 2 weeks of your ICCP appointment.
